Detection of Trace Metal Contamination Around a Dumpsite in Iyara Area Warri Nigeria Using Geoelectrical and Geochemical Methods

Trace metal concentration in soils of Iyara area Warri, Delta State was studied using geophysical and geochemical techniques. Eight vertical electrical sounding (VES) SAS 1000 Terrameter with maximum current electrode spread 150 m the Schlumberger configuration carried out. The geoelectric layers obtained are topsoil, clay, sand fine-medium grained sand. fine to medium third fourth mainly constitute aquifer a depth ranging from 4.8 - 11.0 m. Soil samples were collected at three VES stations covering dumpsite away dumpsite. trace content higher than allowable levels as specified by World Health Organisation (WHO) Department Petroleum Resources Nigeria (DPR) except for Pb undetected 3, Mn 135 mg/kg 1 3 7. Multiple pollution index, Enrichment factor, Non-carcinogenic hazard decreases increasing distance soil around has been impacted results this study will serve background information studies groundwater development area.
